Jehovah Jireh

Genesis 22:14, "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah Jireh: as it is said [to] this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."

The name Jehovah Jireh means that the Lord will provide, and more literally to make Himself known. This particular name for the Lord only appears in this verse as the Lord met Abraham's need in a special and unique way. God tested Abraham's faith even when he was unaware, and provided in a way probably never intended by Abraham. God continually makes Himself known in different ways and amidst various trials, but it is up to you and I to acknowledge when he does. We can be obsessed with the present circumstance and not look for what God is presently doing, or what he may want to do in the future. Trust me, God does want to work in any situation that we are in. God does love us and wants to show things exceedingly and abundantly more than we could have ever thought or imagined. He will provide, He is our sustenance.

Kind of a lengthy response.

God definitely uses trials in our lives. I've often found that the tangible things that weigh upon our minds can be symbolic of other matters we are unwilling to face. Our lack of obedience is something awful. God not only sees our resistance, but He sees the cause of it. We seldom do. He sees the source of our blindess and He longs to cure us. He just knows that it takes time. The healing process can be painful. He often brings us to that point of brokeness before He wraps His arms around us and holds us as we search for rest. But it's those material things that He uses to break us. Once we're open to looking and listening He lays them out before us and smiles as we gaze at them wondering how we'll ever dig our way out. He waits patiently for us to Him.

The moment we look up, rather than to the left or to the right, God knows we're ready. It's in those moments when we can fully understand what is meant by God when He refers to us as children. We can come to a firsthand knowledge of the Father during this time and its through the constant seeking of Him that we begin to bear fruit through the trial. We begin to know Him more by seeing how well He knows us.

Through prayer, through reading His word, through fasting, and through praise He reveals the intimacy and depth a relationship with Him consists of. He speaks directly to your heart and shows you what you're afraid of. He moves even deeper, He shows you why. Eyes will begin to open and you begin to see that every problem or trial lying on the table before you is derived from the same source and for the same unified purpose. That by the working through them we might be transformed into the men and women God intends for us to be, that we would be molded into the image of His son.

Excercise faith! Excercise trust! Excercise love and perserverance! God _does_ provide. My prayer is that we would always give Him the credit He deserves. Even more, that we would have the eyes to recognize His work in our lives and the hunger for Him to do more.
